JUDICIAL CAMPAIGNS

The mudslinging on the national level lets you know that an election is right around the corner.

But here in North Carolina , our statewide races lack attack ads. The “just the facts” judicial campaigns are in large part a product of campaign finance reform, and they’re a shining example of how to conduct free and fair elections.

The Voter Guide to the judicial races is out now, and it contains a wealth of information for those voters who are paying attention. Supreme Court and Court of Appeals races are now far more likely to be decided based on the relative merits of the candidates, rather than their fundraising abilities or their party labels.

Pick up a Voter Guide from the N.C. Board of Elections (click here for the pdf version). And if you’re relieved that there are at least a few statewide offices that cannot be bought, make sure you check off the box on your next state income tax form that funds these campaigns.
